Rancilio Silvia PRO Espresso Machine Review
Rancilio Espresso Machines - Excellent Reputation
Consistently ranking in the top 5 made-in Italy espresso machines, Rancilio has an almost 100-year-old reputation for building top-of-the-line commercial espresso machines. The Silvia Pro is the first significant upgrade to the semi-automatic home machine in more than 20 years.
New Technology – Top Features of the Silvia Pro
-
Dual Boiler
Two is better than one! The Silvia Pro has a brew boiler and a steam boiler. The steam boiler can be enabled to provide dry, powerful steam, and the brew boiler provides optimal and adjustable water for your espresso. The digital display shows the temperature of both boilers
-
PID – Digital Temperature Control
More efficient than analogue temperature control, PID stands for Proportional Integral Derivative. An advanced algorithm maintains the water temperature within one degree Celsius for both your steam and hot water boiler.
Professional Features:
Steam Wand & Hot Water Spout
For a home machine, the Silvia Pro features the same stainless steel steam wand that Rancilio uses on their commercial machines, and there's the addition of a hot water spout that provides for pre-heating cups, tea, and Americanos.
-
Portafilter – Basket - Tamper
Standard on the Silvia Pro is the professional-grade ergonomic portafilter and an IMS precision basket with precision-cut holes for a more even extraction that also reduces the likelihood of channeling. Rancilio made the smart move to include a professional wood tamper with a stainless steel flat base, a feature that's sorely lacking on most home espresso machines.

The Look and Feel of the Silvia Pro
Stainless steel. Sleek. Minimalistic design. Comparative to the design of other leading home espresso machines, it doesn't get more streamlined than the Silvia Pro. Ever so slightly slimmer than the Rocket Appartamento, the Silvia Pro is 3cm taller but still well within range to sit under most standard height upper cabinets.
-
Save on Service & Maintenance
Compared to other home espresso machines, the Silvia Pro is manufactured using commercial-grade parts with fewer components and gaskets. That means less time and fewer parts to service, which adds up to much lower maintenance costs.
A Lot of Pros and One Con
Yes, you can raise and lower the adjustable drip tray, making for fewer splashes when pulling a shot. But this is the only negative note compared to all the plusses of the Silvia Pro – the drip tray is smaller than those on comparable home espresso machines, and there's going to be spillage when removing the tray. Espresso fans around the world have long awaited the Rancilio Silvia Pro, and here at Espressotec, we're no exception. We would love the opportunity to give you a demonstration next time you visit.
